Trust the recent reviews... you are better off on unemployment than working here
Pros: There used to be pros, but they got rid of all the talent | Cons: It is my opinion that if you are looking for an organization that treats their employees like human beings, then Base is not the company for you. It is a company that is owned by two individuals who make decisions based on feelings, and create and tell stories that fit their narrative. It is a place that at face value may look like a great opportunity (pay is decent and its remote work) but will end up being an opportunity that you will likely regret taking. If you want your work and efforts to be noticed, appreciated, and supported, then look elsewhere. The organization has lost more than two thirds of their employees over the past year, where all members of the executive leadership team have left, other than the two owners. This alone is writing on the wall. Trust your instinct. This company is a hotbed of frustration, anger, and disappointment. Save yourself the agony and find an employer that values its employees as more than expendable pawns.

Reflections on Leadership and Organizational Challenges at Base
Pros: High degree of talent on the team, pay is around market average, people are nice (even if some are faking it), people want to try to grow the company. | Cons: My tenure at Base offered me a unique perspective on its operational and management challenges. Unfortunately, my experience was less than satisfactory, primarily due to issues in leadership and organizational structure. Firstly, the company appeared to be struggling financially during my time there, as evidenced by staff reductions and a palpable concern about revenue. This situation, in my opinion, significantly impacted the work environment and employee morale. Moreover, I observed a distinct hierarchy and severe interdepartmental competition within the company culture. This perception, coupled with what I perceived as a lack of professional development opportunities, contributed to a feeling of job insecurity among multiple colleagues. Another point of concern was the professional conduct within the organization, particularly in the upper management. Instances of inappropriate remarks, tardiness, and unclear direction were frequent. This behavior, unfortunately, seemed to reflect a broader issue with the company's leadership ethos. Finally, the strategic direction of the company was unclear to me. There seemed to be a lack of a coherent vision for the future, which, in my view, hindered the company's ability to retain and attract new clients effectively. While I had hoped for a different experience, I believe these observations highlight areas for potential improvement. I recommend prospective employees and clients consider these points when evaluating their engagement with Base.

Nightmare Unveiled: A Harrowing Job Experience at Base. RUN 🏃🏽♂️
Pros: I regret to say that I do not have favorable feedback to offer from my personal experience. | Cons: I had the unfortunate experience of working for Base and it's safe to say that it was one of the most disheartening chapters of my professional life. Here are some key reasons why I would strongly advise against considering employment with this organization: Upon joining, I expected a thorough onboarding process and adequate training to excel in my role. Unfortunately, this was not the case. The lack of proper training made it difficult to adapt to the job, and when issues arose, the support from management was minimal at best. The culture at Base is toxic and demoralizing. There is a distinct lack of teamwork. The overall environment is rife with negativity, which has a detrimental impact on both morale and productivity. It was abundantly clear that certain employees receive preferential treatment when it comes to recognition and career opportunities. Projects, promotions, and accolades seem reserved for a select few, while the rest of us struggle to understand the criteria for such decisions. The lack of transparency in decision-making was a significant concern. Employees were left in the dark about why certain individuals are chosen for key projects or promotions, fostering a culture of suspicion and resentment. My time at Base was a regrettable experience. I would caution anyone considering employment with this organization to thoroughly research and consider alternative options. There are undoubtedly better opportunities available elsewhere, where employees are treated with respect, provided adequate support, and given the chance to thrive in a positive work environment.

Excellence and best place to work for
Pros: They are very professional, they care about us, and their pay rates are excellent. I love that I'm never alone when I need support. This is a consciously managed company you can trust and will continuously give you work and income opportunities. One of the best parts is that you can work anywhere in the world! Thank you Base HQ! | Cons: As of today I have none.

Horrible company & Poorly Managed
Pros: Freedom of working from home while getting to meet new people and explore various industries. | Cons: Worked with Base for 6 months and they canceled my contract after my client left the company due to the cost of Base. The client was very unhappy with the level of service provided by Base and the ridiculous amount of turnover within the company so the client gave a 30-day notice and requested that I stay on throughout the 30 days. Base called a meeting with me and notified me that they were canceling my contract due to performance which was a complete lie. So disappointing!

Flexible Work, great opportunities to get your foot in the door
Pros: So far I have had pretty great matches from Base. Very professional companies and I've been happy with my compensation. One of my clients is pretty difficult but the other is very likely to turn into my dream job with a salary I never imagined in the future. I was able to get my foot in the door at a great company and now that they know my skills and I have proved myself, it looks like I may end up with a full time position in a career I have been wanting to get into. Base has been a great experience for me. | Cons: They don't let you have a ton of input into your matches and the matches can be slow. 2/3 of of my matches have been great, but one has had several EAs come and go and I wasn't really given a heads up about what I was walking into. However I'm making the most of it and my background is a good fit.

Great company
Pros: Fully remote, very little lift. Will help you acclimate if you come in without experience. Community is great if you involve yourself. They really value their contractors and it shows! Raises twice a year. | Cons: Fully remote, so socialization is low. Easy to feel lonely or secluded. You are paid in hourly blocks — so if you don’t meet that block you don’t get paid and your client loses money. There’s no PTO and no Holiday pay if you are a contractor. If you want to take time off it comes out of your own pocket.

Was Great Until the Merger.
Pros: Was a wonderful place to work when they used to be called 33Vincent with a very supportive culture, and executive assistants were pretty much guaranteed as much work as they needed. The company still maintains a very tolerant and kind environment, and when you can actually get work nowadays, it’s still a very fun job to have. The clients are always very kind, and tend to run non-profits where they do incredible work. It really makes you feel like you’re having a human impact; by helping your client to achieve their best, and they in turn help a lot of people as a result, you feel like you’re really helping people in need. | Cons: The CEO originally owned 33Vincent, essentially a broker for executive assistants, and their EA-specific software Base. Since the two merged into Base HQ, things have gone downhill. The main thing is that it’s extremely hard to get work now, one because the management is now disorganized, but they also changed the client-match process to a “pool” where the client picks randomly from 3-4 EAs, so getting work is now a gamble. At first when I had availability, I would get work within a couple weeks. Now I’ve been waiting for nearly 8 months because they’re “behind.” I went from a very steady 40 hours a week to less than 15 hours a week because their client match process is slowed. Because of this, it’s no longer a sustainable job at all. Which is totally against what I was told when I was hired, which was that both full-time and part-time work was very feasible. I reached the point where I had to quit so I could even survive. When 33Vincent, there was a great community, responsive team members, and a really organized structure that made events very easy to find. But now I feel like the friendly community vibe is gone and feels vapid when there is friendliness. It feels much more corporate, much less like they give a crap about their employees. The third issue is that a lot of businesses that contract out Base are either hiring temporarily for a project, or failing financially. Which is to be expected, since Base’s contract labor is exorbitantly priced per month (over HALF of what I make a month) — I hate to say it since I feel an EA’s work has much value, but only a sucker would contract from Base rather than hire their own employee or freelancer. As such, many businesses can’t afford to maintain their contracts for long. All freelance work is uncertain but when you’re at the mercy of finding someone work for you, it’s very stressful to lose a client due to business issues and have to wait for another client you will probably lose. Base also expects perfection. There’s a difference between excellent work and perfection. “You can’t just do a stellar job supporting your executive and be friendly with each other, you have to form a close spiritual bond with them. We don’t expect you to work overtime or go beyond your boundaries, but why don’t you want to go above and beyond by doing so?” I’ve seen them deny people’s applications for being stellar except for a minor detail, such as creating an amazing business trip agenda with all the CEO’s wants and needs fulfilled to their best, but they didn’t think of telling him the best vegan restaurant in town for him. They also reward contractors with bonuses who maintain a client for longer than a year. But because many business only hire short term, that can be hard or just not possible depending on the individual’s luck. The culture really makes you feel like a failure when a client ends their contract, because if you were much better and friendlier, wouldn’t they have gone beyond the services they initially hired? It’s YOUR fault we didn’t hold a contract long term. I’ve worked as an assistant for years before coming here, and what started off as a wonderful environment that made me feel valued now feels like a shallow, disorganized, unhealthy place to work.
